Krishna's birth celebrations continued....
In KLC a temple for Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Krishna was constructed on the landing of the second floor. Traditional games like Tug of War, Blindman's Buff and kabaddi were played by the teachers and students, bringing in Krishna's young years. Uri Adi (pot breaking) was done by every single student and teacher amidst lots of cheering, encouragement and drumbeats. Those children who could not break independently, were helped by their teachers.
Pooja for Krishna was conducted with 'Aval Payasam' as neivdhyam offering made in the school kitchen. This was followed by a whole school community lunch in the foyer, where the children ate their own food sitting together, some with the help of teachers. The kindergarten students had a Potluck where their mothers had cooked food for them.
Every class depicted the life and story of Krishna in various stages of his life - Gokul, Mathura, Brindavan and Dwaraka put together lovingly by the students and teachers. Students went around and saw the decorations in other classes, enjoyed singing songs and even used the games provided in them, which Krishna would have played. One of the classes was converted to a Gopi's home where the pot of butter was hanging, and the children could climb up to take the butter. A few forms of Krishna in the different classes are shown here.
We concluded the celebrations on September 7th with a Krishnanama sankeerthanam by the sisters Virraja and Vasudhaa, who enthralled the children with the story of Krishna through music and songs.
This was followed by the dance to a song on Krishna, by the teachers and senior school students, which was calming and soothing after the whole week of celebrations.
This month's Tarang was different, in the sense, it was a celebration of 30 years of music by Kalaimamani Ramani Bharadwaj, Music Director in cinema, performed by the group Aarohi, a group of young upcoming and some established musicians. The songs were popular and enjoyed by the audience. Blue Blue Sky Choir of our school performed a few songs for the audience too.
Once Krishna comes, he brings along all the other festivals and celebrations. We celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi on 15th September. The students were given clay a few days earlier and each class brought out their own Ganesha beautifully made and decorated by students and teachers. A pooja with 108 jaggery rice balls and Channa Sundal as neivedhyam was conducted along with singing and dancing by the students.
Mindsprint a CSR partner has sponsored KLC's stitching vocation for production of table runners, cushions, coasters as a part of the Diwali hamper that is being put together for sale. To facilitate easy stitching, a machine was tested and approved by the experts. The machine was bought for the vocation from funds provided by Mindsprint. This will be used by the students to produce more products for Diwali. We have already procured an order and delivered the products this month. We are looking forward to more production in the coming month.
As a school, working with special children, we receive many outside students as interns, volunteers, coming in to observe and work with our students. One such occasion was the visit of 15 psychology students of class 12, from Kola Perumal School, Arumbakkam, accompanied by their teachers. They observed the students in the class during activities, spent time with their teacher and program coordinator Neha Bharadhwaj asking questions to quench their curiosity about the students. They also spent time with Gita Bhalla our principal who talked to them about the children, the disability, their sensory issues and how their spirit is intact. They also met Ms. Jayadevi, our counselor and spent time learning more about their subject in relation to the special children.
Feedback from their teacher "it was a very enlightening and inspiring experience for my students. They gathered a lot of information from their interactive session with all of you. This visit has sensitized them. Thank you so much for allowing us this experience...."

Janmashtami Celebration
Krishna Janmashtami @ KLC was a week long celebration... posting in parts for all to feel the experience too.
Every year Krishna enters KLC with an intention. This year he came with as the being of brotherhood and togetherness. Rightly so... our celebrations started on Rakshabandhan.
On 30th and 31st of August, the teachers and children decorated their classes, where they brought an aspect of Krishna's brotherhood and quiet presence.
Krishna Jayanthi festival
On 1st September, Hamsi, Krishna's favourite cow, sent her representative to our school. As each child took turns to feed her and take her blessings. It was a quiet, yet powerful time for all the children as they absorbed the essence of feeding a cow.
Earlier in the day, traditional games, like blindfold bluff and tug of war were played, bringing Krishna and his divine presence in Nanadgaon to our children.
KLC: On 4th September, came Krishna's favourite game... the 'Uri Adi' or 'Dahi Handi' as its famously called in other parts of India. Uri Adi was a celebration of music, enthusiasm and complete joy in the school, it felt as if Krishna's naughtiness had entered even the most quiet and reluctant child in the school.
KLC, concluded their Krishna Janmashtami celebrations on 07th September with a Harikatha by Virraja and Vasudhaa exclusively for the children and teachers if KLC. Their mesmerizing performance on stories of Krishna, left the audience spellbound. Post the Harikatha, children of the senior school along with the teachers performed a dance for Krishna.

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, an important deity in Hinduism. Janmashtami is celebrated with great devotion and reverence, as it marks the birth of Lord Krishna, who is seen as a symbol of divinity, love, and righteousness. His life and teachings inspire devotees to lead a life based on Dharma (righteousness), Karma (action), and Bhakti (devotion). This year we had our celebrations on 5 th September 2023 in our center. In India, Teacher's Day is celebrated on September 5th every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a renowned scholar and the second President of India. However, many countries celebrate their Teacher's Day on different dates, unlike many other International Days. This year we had our celebrations by having a good lunch for the staff and a small gift to the staff. Some fun games were also conducted for the teachers.
Student Review
For any successful child program, it is very necessary that the parents are aware of the activities to be done at home as a continuation of the activities done in school. From the 15 th of September, we started the parent's review to understand about the child's behaviour at home and also their progress made. Most of the parents expressed their satisfaction on improvements reflected at home. Ms. Priya, our co Ordinator stressed on the need to train the children on ADL activities to make them independent. A plan was made to ensure this and a review to be done after two months.
