From the staff of Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
Greetings from Early Intervention and the Remedial Unit!
Parents meeting at Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur.
The EI-VRC team of V-Excel Educational Trust, in association with ATOS Foundation, has been providing remedial services to students in Grades 1 to 5 at Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur. The program, which began with a comprehensive screening of all children in October 2025, successfully concluded its services for the academic year in March 2026 with the year-end assessment done for the children.
Sharing the need for the remedial classes.
As the academic year drew to a close, parent meetings were organized to apprise the respective parents about the remedial program's objectives and the activities undertaken throughout the year. Led by Mrs. Lekshmi Ramesh, Head of Early Intervention, the well-attended sessions were held across three dates between March 25 and 27, 2026.
Mrs. Lekshmi Ramesh explained the need and importance of remedial education and detailed the screening process used to identify children requiring additional support. She emphasized that the program extended beyond academic assistance, adopting a holistic approach that includes occupational therapy and counselling services to support the overall development of young learners. She emphasised the need for consistency, motivation and quality time spent with the children at home as pillars of development.
Positive Feedback and Visible Progress
Of the 87 children enrolled in the remedial program, parents of 71 children attended the meetings. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with most parents reporting noticeable improvements in their children, ranging from behavioral changes to academic development. Teachers from the school also acknowledged the efforts, noting visible progress in both academics and student behavior.
Home Program Guidance for Summer Vacation
Parents were provided with guidance on implementing a structured home program during the summer vacation. The plan included a daily rhythm incorporating learning time, play time, family time, and age-appropriate daily chores to maintain continuity in their children's development.
The sessions were interactive, with parents participating in Brain Gym exercises that helped them understand the strategies being employed to bridge their children's learning gaps. The parents thanked the school management for the initiative and were very happy to meet Mr. Arunkumar – Therapist and Mrs. Pinki Arun – Special Educator.
V-Excel Educational Trust's Early Intervention Team along with ATOS Foundation, Chennai conducts successful 'Meet and Greet' Programme.
The Early Intervention team of V-Excel Educational Trust conducted vibrant 'Meet and Greet' programmes at Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur, on March 5, and at Olcott Memorial School, Besant Nagar on March 6, 2026.
The outreach programme, designed to help children from grades 1 to 5 bridge learning gaps, was met with enthusiastic participation and appreciation at both schools. The initiative combines remedial education with regular counselling sessions that develop behavioural skills, critical thinking, and exam strategies. The outreach programme is conducted in association and support of ATOS Foundation, Chennai.
Building Confidence Through Learning
The relationship between therapists, special educators, and children was evident as students displayed happiness, enthusiasm, and strong engagement throughout the sessions.
Dharini, a 5th grade student from Sankara Matriculation School, shared her experience: "Since the remedial classes started, I have seen myself improving in spelling and memory, and I am able to understand better in class."
Mrs. Stella from the Early Intervention team noted the children's remarkable progress. "The children have shown good enthusiasm and better understanding since classes began," she said, highlighting one particular child who initially needed help with alphabet identification and phonics but can now write jumbled words correctly and work on simple mathematical calculations.
Mr. Arun, the team's occupational therapist, observed that group games helped children improve focus and attention while fostering camaraderie among participants

Celebrating Achievement
At Olcott Memorial School, children prepared special entertainment items including dance performances, poetry recitation, and a skit based on the fable "The Lion and the Mouse."
All participants were recognized for their efforts with medals and boxes of watercolour paints.
Mrs. Sumathi Srinivasan, the team's counsellor, observed the pride each child carried while receiving their medals.
Both events concluded with a motivational speech by Mrs. Lekshmi Ramesh, Head of Early Intervention, who also engaged the children with memory games that they enthusiastically shared with classmates.

From Shashikala Subramaniam's Desk
Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.March unfolded as an engaging and purposeful month, carrying with it a quiet intensity in both classroom engagement and curriculum-driven work. Alongside this, the in-service sessions offered moments for teachers to pause, reflect, and deepen their practice. The days were shaped by purposeful interactions with our students and trainees, and by a sense of shared effort with our office team.
It was, in many ways, a month that balanced activity with reflection, and effort with a sense of meaning.
Individualized Programs:
As part of their individualised programs, a group of trainees, all above 23 years, have been meaningfully engaged in pursuing purposeful, self-selected work. One such journey was that of Saihariharan, who chose to work on crafting simple pine wood trays-functional pieces designed to serve with both utility and style. With the steady guidance of Monesh, he was involved in every step of the process, from selecting the wood and purchasing it, to getting it cut and patiently working through to completion. The process unfolded in a calm, systematic manner, allowing for learning, ownership, and quiet perseverance. The finished tray stood not just as a product, but as a moment of deep satisfaction-of having created something both beautiful and useful. The photograph captures this sense of fulfilment far better than words.

Holi – A Celebration Rooted in Nature and Togetherness:
On 6-Mar-2026, The celebration of Holi this year was rooted in a thoughtful and natural approach. Colours were mindfully prepared by the trainees and students using vegetables, flowers, and roots-yellow from fresh turmeric, orange from marigold flowers, pink from beetroot, and a soft violet from sweet pea flowers. Each step of the process, from drying under the sun to grinding, sieving, and re-drying, was carried out with care and involvement, making the preparation as meaningful as the celebration itself.
As is the tradition at KLC, Holi was also celebrated as a Water Day. The portico was filled with buckets of water, and the space soon came alive with laughter and movement. Students joyfully drenched one another, applied colours, and immersed themselves in play for over an hour. It was a day filled with colour, connection, and simple, shared happiness.

In-Service – Thought, Reflection, and Working Together:
On 13th March and 20th March, the in-service sessions this month offered a meaningful space for reflection and learning. Teachers revisited their inter-relationships with colleagues and explored the importance of regulating emotions while handling challenging situations. There was a conscious effort to pause, look back, and consider more thoughtful ways of responding.
Discussions also focused on the dynamics of relationships-understanding how holding on and holding back influence interactions. Teachers reflected on familiar thoughts such as “why did this happen?” or “why only me?”, and the impact these have on behaviour. The idea of meeting each person and each situation anew, every day, emerged as a valuable shift in perspective.
The sessions further reinforced the importance of seeing responsibilities through completely, even when they are difficult. These insights, shared by the experienced Gita Bhalla, supported greater awareness, contributing to more harmonious relationships and a smoothly functioning school environment.

Grade 3 – Bringing Curriculum to Life:
As part of the Grade 3 curriculum, the students engaged deeply with stories such as Bright Eyes and The Tower of Babel, bringing their learning alive through hands-on experiences. The story of the tower was explored through the creation of structures using bricks and simple materials, allowing the children to connect with the narrative in a tangible way.
In their practical work, the students also experienced gardening as a meaningful activity. A visit to a nursery gave them the opportunity to select and purchase pots, soil, and flowering plants. Back at school, they planted them with care, learning each step of the process. What followed was a daily rhythm of responsibility-watering, observing, and nurturing their plants. Watching the plants take root and slowly flower became a quiet, beautiful experience, fostering patience, care, and a sense of connection with their work.

Vocational Activities – Showcasing Ability and Effort:
The display and Support received for vocational products from KLC took place across two spaces-IBM on 18th March and FITFEST Edition 3 at C.P. Arts Centre on 22nd March. The products were warmly received, with many visitors appreciating the effort and purchasing them. Beyond the support received, the experience served as an important platform for creating awareness about the work being done by our students under the guidance of their teachers. It was an opportunity to highlight their capabilities, dedication, and the value of purposeful vocational engagement.

Tarang and Kalarangam – A Double Delight for the Senses:
Tarang and Kalarangam came together this month as a double delight for the eyes and ears of our students and trainees. Through music, dance, and song, these programmes created a rich and engaging sensory experience that held the attention and interest of all who attended.
Tarang, with its cultural performances, brought together rhythm and movement in a way that was both vibrant and inclusive. Kalarangam, with its focus on music transcending barriers, offered a soulful and immersive experience through live performances by special artists. The opportunity to witness such talent and expression was deeply meaningful for our students and trainees.

Year-End Parent Meetings – Sharing, Reflection, and Partnership:
The year-end parent group meetings, held between 24th and 27th March, brought together parents of Kindergarten, Grade 3, Grade 4, and Vocational students with their respective class teachers and curriculum coordinators. These sessions created a meaningful space for open sharing and reflection.
Parents spoke about the changes they observed in their children over the year, while also expressing the challenges they faced and areas where they sought support from the school. In turn, teachers shared insights about each child, highlighting progress as well as areas where continued collaboration with parents would be valuable.
What emerged strongly from these interactions was a sense of reassurance and connection. Parents appreciated hearing about their children’s journeys and also found comfort in recognising that others shared similar experiences and concerns. The meetings fostered a feeling of camaraderie and togetherness, strengthening the partnership between home and school.

In continuation of the parent meetings, a moment that stayed with all of us was Marianne’s sharing about her son, Meshach. Having joined KLC at the age of six and now sixteen, his journey has been a long and meaningful one. As the family prepares to move to the outskirts of the city, Marianne spoke with deep emotion about her experiences with KLC-the teachers, the system, and the support that had shaped her son’s growth over the years.
With tears and gratitude, she bid farewell to what she lovingly called “a second home for Meshach.” It was a poignant reminder of the bonds that are built over time, and the quiet, lasting impact of the work we do.

A Visit to Sadhana – Moments of Warmth and Wonder:
On 27th March, A visit by the KLC staff to Sadhana School for Hearing Impaired children at Kelambakkam, on the last Friday of the month, became a deeply enriching experience. The students welcomed us with warmth and openness, set against the backdrop of a serene campus filled with expansive greenery and trees.
Interactions unfolded gently, with the help of Avila, who facilitated communication through sign language, allowing for a meaningful exchange between students and teachers. The group then came together for a painting activity, guided by Mahalakshmi and Kavitha, where creativity became a shared language beyond words.
There were also quiet moments of connection, as teachers walked through the campus, later gathering on the stage to sing together. The visit concluded with a heartfelt birthday song for one of the students-a simple gesture that held much warmth.
It was an experience that left behind a sense of wonder, respect, and deep appreciation for the space and the people who make it what it is.

As we move forward, the first two weeks of April promise to be just as full, before the school closes for the summer holidays on April 10th. There is a sense of winding down, while still holding the rhythm and engagement of the days ahead.
Looking beyond, there is the anticipation of a summer camp, and the continuity of home programs for students who benefit from maintaining their diet, routine, and meaningful engagement during the break. These structures remain important in helping them stay connected and settled until they return to school in June.
It is a transition-one that carries both a sense of closure and quiet preparation for what lies ahead.
