Group Counseling for EI and VRC staff members on Interpersonal Skills:
The Early Intervention & Remedial unit had a workshop on Interpersonal Skills through an interactive group session on 30 July 2022.
Group counselling helps us to declutter our minds. It also helps us rejuvenate our thought processes and facilitates retrospect of the same. For the Early intervention services, it's imperative to have a calm mind and to stay composed as we deal with young children and these sessions help us channelise our energy.
The workshop was moderated by Ms. Jayadevi from the counseling department.
The core objective of this interactive session was to retrospect ourselves and understand each other better, which was greatly achieved.
The session concluded with a team-building activity on how to develop effective communication.
The Early Intervention unit of V-Excel Educational trust has been providing services for children with special needs for the last twenty years. We are happy to inform that we have got an opportunity to serve in the District Early Intervention Center at Stanley Medical Hospital, Chennai.

Kaleidoscope Learning Centre
From Shashikala Subramaniam's Desk
One of the main intentions of our work with the students/trainees is independence, mastery in what they are learning, without depending on the adult who is working with them. In our paper bag making vocation, Aaqila and Adithya, two of our senior trainees showcased these attributes. When their teacher was unavailable on a particular day, they set up the space, the materials and started working quietly on their own without waiting for anyone to tell or help them. It was a wonderful day to see this happening. This moment was captured impromptu, hence the bad lighting.
Our Vocational Products are getting noticed and two such occasions were "The Market Place" at FIKA restaurant in Adyar and the stall in Grundfos company. Along with other V-Excel Unit's products, KLC also showcased its vocational products – Pot Holders, Cushion Covers, Bamboo Planters, Coconut Shell holders and Candles. A few teachers and students were representing KLC during the sales.
Dr. Vasudha our Founder, Director turned 60 in June. To mark this special occasion, every student and teacher in KLC worked on small coloured squares of material, which was put together to be made into a beautiful Bedspread. A few V-Excel staff too joined us in this endeavour. We celebrated her birthday on July 11th, with a small get-together of all the students, singing, cake cutting, presenting the Bedspread and also giving her and her friends a small party with snacks made by the students.
Sreyes Farm Program – Day and Overnight, started this month and students have been going regularly, after a break of 2 months.
Our first Child Study for the year started this month, with Rahul Raja – a grade 1 student. These 3 weeks of his child study brought in many questions, arguments, discussions within the teachers, apart from his presentation, observation and night study.
This Month's Fun Day was a day out of school, into the serene environment of the "Tholgapiyar Poonga – the Creek Park" where the trainees went for a long walk, relaxed, sat around, had their break and came back to school for lunch "Veg. Biriyani" which had been ordered from "Sangeetha". Though the shaded walking area gave them respite, the long walk and the hot day exhausted them. They had their lunch and had a long massage.
Srilatha, mother of one of our students, had been working with the students consistently and effectively. This was her last month with us, as she is moving to the Community Living space in August. Her class students had become very attached to her. She was given a warm sendoff by all teachers and students of KLC.
