June... the month of Joy and return to School.
June heralded the beginning of another exciting academic year at Kaleidoscope Learning Centre. While the arrival of students brought renewed energy and excitement to our classrooms, the month was also one of thoughtful reflection, meticulous planning, and laying a strong foundation for the year ahead.
The weeks leading up to the reopening were filled with purposeful discussions and planning sessions. Meetings with the management, curriculum planning sessions, admissions, and discussions on new initiatives ensured that every aspect of the school's functioning was carefully planned.
Learning Through Rhythm and Purpose
The academic year began with the curriculum from the very first day, following a structured rhythm that provides students with security, purpose, and a sense of predictability. Rooted in Waldorf Education and Curative Education, each day is carefully balanced between "breathing in"—moments of focused learning—and "breathing out"—creative, practical, and movement-based activities, enabling students to learn without becoming overwhelmed.
Each four to five-week curriculum block centres around a Main Lesson that connects the day's experiences. The daily rhythm includes morning circle, movement, the Main Lesson, reading and writing, form drawing, practical activities, craft, art and play therapy, activities of daily living, games, and, wherever possible, outings related to the Main Lesson. This consistent and meaningful rhythm, experienced every day, nurtures confidence, independence, and a joyful approach to learning while respecting each student's individual pace of development.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
A new experiential learning program was introduced this month to help students gain confidence in navigating the world beyond the classroom. Every Wednesday, a group of five students from different grades travelled together to the beach and the Lighthouse, experiencing everyday activities such as travelling by auto, adjusting to crowded spaces, observing nature, and watching the world around them—all under the guidance of a supportive adult who understood each student's individual needs.
These outings became much more than a visit outside school. They provided valuable opportunities for social learning, independence, confidence building, and joyful exploration, leaving students with a sense of calm, accomplishment, and happiness after each experience.
Tarang – Back in Action
Tarang resumed this month with a beautiful Carnatic classical vocal concert by Vidwan Kunnakudi M. Balamuralikrishna, accompanied by Vidwan H.N. Bhaskar on the violin and Vidwan B. Shree Sundarkumar on the mridangam. Held on 18th June at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, the concert was a delightful musical experience for our students and trainees.
The soulful performance held the audience mesmerised, with the students listening in rapt attention and thoroughly enjoying the rich melodies and vibrant rhythms. It was a wonderful afternoon that brought joy and calm, to all who attended.
Founder's Day Artwork – Creating Together
One of KLC's cherished annual traditions is the creation of the Founder's Day artwork, where the entire Sharada community comes together to contribute towards a single piece of art. Students, trainees, teachers, support staff, and friends in the building each play a part in creating an artwork that eventually takes pride of place within the campus.
This year, under the guidance of our art teacher, Mahalakshmi, every student and teacher lovingly painted broad ice cream sticks with vibrant colours and unique patterns. On 26th June, these individually decorated pieces were thoughtfully assembled into a striking collaborative artwork, reflecting not only creativity but also the spirit of unity, participation, and belonging that defines our KLC family.
Looking Ahead
As June draws to a close, the rhythms and patterns of school life have gently found their place. The Main Lesson blocks are now well underway across all classrooms, and the students have settled into the familiar routines that provide security, confidence, and a joyful readiness to learn.
Careful planning of every aspect of the curriculum, thoughtfully prepared for each day and every block, allows learning to flow with purpose while offering the predictability and rhythm that are so essential to our students.
