Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
From the staff of Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
Greetings from Early Intervention and the Remedial Unit!
This year, Navratri is being celebrated in the month of September. It is a season of spiritual reflection and renewal. Many families fast, pray, dance and worship the nine forms of Durga. It symbolizes victory over evil. South Indian families display Dolls and Gods, which represent our journey from the material to the spiritual world.
In the early intervention and remedial unit, activities were centred around Navratri. Our children enjoyed solving puzzles, reading short passages about Navratri, singing short rhymes and solving story problems about the festival.
The children engaged in Navratri greetings, roleplay and explored the variety of food that are made during this season. They saw some pictures of people engaging in worship, participating in Dandia and Garba, and the display of dolls.
It was a delight to see the students learning about our culture and heritage.

September – the last month of the first term, brought some hard work through the curriculum, celebrations, time together for the teachers, presentations to the parents, and term-end individual parent meetings.
Times of change and growing up:
On September 3rd we had a simple ceremony for students and teachers to graduate into various spaces, which was pending. Kaavyasri graduated from Grade 1 to Grade 2, Mithra from junior school to vocational grade, teachers Karthika and Sathya from the junior school to the Vocational space. The most poignant and important movement – Aaqila who had been with KLC for 19 years and grew to be a very independent, strong, purposeful individual, a lead actor in many of our plays and who had even gone out to another school to work as a teacher’s assistant, taking a break to be under the care of her mother and family and working out of home. It was a beautiful moment when all her teachers wished her the very best in her future endeavors and sent her off into her mother’s care.
Festivals – celebrated traditionally:
Onam
In continuation of the preparation for 10 days before the festival, Onam was celebrated over 3 days – on the 2nd traditional games and a drama, on the 3rd traditional Chendai (beating of the drums) and on 4th September with the traditional pookolam. Flowers were procured a day earlier, and the students prepared them in their classes to be used the next day. A traditional arrangement of the sheaf of coconut flowers in paddy in the brass vessel was kept. A beautiful “Poo Kolam” with the help of the students, teachers and staff of V-Excel was arranged. Dances by the students and teachers, puli attam.
Dussehra – the start:
Parent’s involvement in the activities of the school, plays an important role. To encourage this, we had a few mothers come into school on 17th September and help us in making “Ma Ladoo – ladoos made out of powdered fried gram”, which was one of the offerings for the Dusshera Pooja on 19th. They enjoyed the process, the time spent and took home ladoos, which were made a day earlier as a trial run.
An indigenous Golu, with dolls and objects made by the students in school, related to their craft work for their main lessons was showcased in the foyer. A small puja was done on 19th September.
A journey of learning and experiencing education:
5 post-graduate students from the department of Counseling and psychology of MGR University, spent 5 weeks with the students and staff of KLC, observing, experiencing and learning the ways of KLC. They also worked with 2 students each on areas of their interest and their requirements.
Feedback from one of the interns:
From my experience, V-Excel Educational Trust is a very nurturing environment for children with special needs. The school provides academics, therapies, vocational training, extracurricular activities, and cultural events are beautifully integrated. I could see how much effort goes into ensuring that each child is given opportunities to grow not just in skills, but also in creativity and independence.
The staff and teachers at V-Excel were extremely dedicated, patient, and empathetic. Their warmth and commitment created a safe environment where students felt comfortable, supported, and encouraged to explore. I personally learned a lot by watching the way the teachers and staff handled challenges with calmness and compassion.
The children themselves were truly inspiring to me. Despite their challenges, they showed remarkable individual strengths whether in memory, creativity, helping behaviors, or vocational skills. They expressed emotions and social reciprocity in unique ways, and each interaction with them taught me patience, observation, and the importance of valuing small steps of progress. I especially admired how enthusiastic and committed they were during activities like weaving, stitching, games, and drama.
One small suggestion from my perspective is that, although the school is doing a great job with the children, I felt that more frequent workshops or awareness sessions for parents and the broader community could help reduce stigma and create better understanding about neuro-divergence.
Overall, my perspective of V-Excel is where teachers, staff, and children all contribute to a culture of inclusion, empathy, and progress. Being part of this environment has been deeply enriching for me as a budding counselor.
Celebration of Teacher's Day:
An overnight trip to a resort on ECR on 5th and 6th September was organised by the management of V-Excel, to celebrate Teacher’s Day. The arrangements for the travel, food, games, stay were excellent, and the resort provided them with a scenic venue to relax and enjoy their stay. Almost 25 teachers and staff of KLC went and spent quality time with each other. It was well deserved break.
Tarang for the Month: Sampradhaya Bhajans
Kum. Rajeevi Ganesh and party performed songs which were energetic, rousing and soul stirring and had the students and audience joining them in singing and clapping to the beat of the music.
End of the term updates, reviews and personal meetings and presentations:
Meetings:
As we neared the end of the first term, we met the parents of the students individually. How the students have improved over the last few months in school, their individual goals achieved or being worked on, how the parents saw them at home, their difficulties, queries, worries were all discussed along with the class teachers. It was an insightful experience to know more about the students from their parents. A way ahead in the coming term was also discussed.
Presentations through Drama:
Every grade in school chose one of their main lessons of this term, as a presentation to the parents, by way of Drama on 19th September. With the help of other class students and teachers, Grade 2 presented “The first 5 Avatars of Vishnu – from Dashavatar”, Grade 6 presented “The story of Chandra Gupta Maurya”, Grade 4 presented “Stories from Norse Mythology” and the Vocational students presented “The Tree Girl”. We had many parents join us for these presentations and it was well attended and appreciated.
Grade 2 – The 5 Avatars from Dashavtar
Grade 6 – Chandragupta Maurya
Grade 4 – Stories from Norse Mythology
Vocational Students – The Tree Girl
Dussehra Camp during the term Break:
The term ended on 19th September for Dussehra Break, and a few teachers of KLC wanted to work during the holidays with the students. So about 7 students joined the camp, which involved activities which catered to their sensory integration, social interaction, ADLs, to be active through games, fine motor skills, which they all enjoyed.

Visarjan
✨ As the whole world comes together to celebrate Visarjan (the final day of the 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations which began on August 27), it's a moment to reflect, cherish, and say goodbye with happiness and gratitude. Every festival brings joy, but farewells remind us how meaningful these shared moments are.
Here's a wholesome glimpse of celebrations across all centers of V-Excel. At the YES Center(Mylapore), trainers and trainees joined for prayers and devotional songs, expressing their spirit. They also showcased their creativity with drawings, crafts, and vibrant colors. In Tiruvannamalai, students sculpted idols and performed simple yet heartfelt pooja. At Pandharpur, students handcrafted and painted idols with care and offered prayers with tradition.
At VTU, the energy was contagious! Trainers and trainees came together to create their own idols, perform pooja, and celebrate Visarjan with lots of happiness, music, and dance. Their enthusiasm and team spirit made the day unforgettable, showing how joy and togetherness bring people closer.
These celebrations go beyond rituals they build creativity, faith, and a sense of community. The laughter, energy, and emotions shared will stay with us long after the celebrations are over.

Navaratri the festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil was observed with devotion and joy at V-Excel Educational Trust, Solapur. 🌸
Our students took part in the traditional Bhondala, a beautiful Maharashtrian custom where an elephant idol is placed at the center, and everyone sings folk songs while joyfully performing pradakshina (circling around it). This ritual not only celebrates the spirit of unity and togetherness but also keeps our culture and heritage alive. 🪔🐘
The celebration beautifully conveyed that even in today’s world, we must learn to overcome the “modern demons” of injustice and unkindness with courage, honesty, and compassion.
The day concluded on a joyful and heartwarming note with our khirapat activity where children eagerly guessed the hidden prasad, sweet or salty. Their laughter and excitement filled the space, making it a truly memorable end to our Navaratri celebration one that beautifully blended tradition, learning, and joy. 🌸✨.
