Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
From the staff of Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
Greetings from Early Intervention and the Remedial Unit!
We are all set to start the new academic year at EI & VRC. A fresh beginning for our students and teachers and hoping this year to be filled with exciting opportunities and new experiences.
Teachers began the preparations on June 3rd and children started attending sessions from 5th onwards. Children were excited to share about their holiday experiences and to tell us about the places they visited.
There were new admissions too. They took a little time to adapt but soon were comfortable and started co-operating with the therapist and special educators.
Outreach Program
The outreach program team conducted screening in Olcott Memorial High School from June 16 to June 23. Seventy-two students across grades one to five participated in the assessment. The educators and therapist assessed their gross and fine motor skills, cognitive and vocabulary development, numeracy skills, letter sound recognition, phonological awareness, and social communication skills. Each child had the opportunity to express themself and solve problems independently. They enjoyed coloring their beautiful pictures by using crayons. They were very excited to do their physio and occupational therapy assessment in nature. After the screening, the educators and therapist scored and analysed the assessments. We will be resuming our outreach activities soon.

Yoga Day Celebration at V-Excel Special School – Early Intervention and Remedial Programs
On the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21st 2025, the Early Intervention and Remedial students of V-Excel Special School came together to celebrate the spirit of wellness and inner balance through simple yoga practices. With guided support from their teachers and therapists, the children engaged in gentle asanas, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities that were tailored to their individual needs and abilities.
The session not only promoted physical flexibility and motor coordination but also created a calming environment that enhanced focus and emotional well-being. It was heartwarming to see our young learners participate with enthusiasm and joy, showcasing the positive impact of yoga in their daily routine.
This celebration highlighted V-Excel’s continued commitment to holistic development, where every child is given the tools to grow, thrive, and find peace within.

Kaleidoscope Learning Centre
From Shashikala Subramaniam's Desk

The reopening of the school in June always brings in anticipation of getting back to routine, doing regular day-to-day activities, for the students, teachers and parents.
Preparation and re-opening:
The school reopened for the teachers on June 5th to help and organise in preparing the space, the curriculum for the coming year, plans for the activities, changes in the classrooms and above all for some teacher training. It also gave the teachers time to share their experiences of the summer, their plans for the coming year, and goals.

The students started school on the 11th and settled into their routine, activities and prepared spaces. We were surprised to see that the students were settled and calm, even after the holidays, and it felt that the parents had maintained the rhythm and diet for the children during the holidays.

Tarang – the new season:
Jhankaar Live – a new initiative by singer R P Shravan as a musical group was initiated in June Tarang, on 19th, ably supported by Anish Mohan on Keyboard and Martin on Percussion. It was a moving performance, along with interaction with the students by the group and they enjoyed it.

Goal setting and Parent’s meetings:
The year started with group meetings in the week of, 19th – 25th June, for every class with the parents / caregivers and the class teachers, which gave an opportunity to both to know more about the students, their improvements over the last year in school and at home, the areas which needed more work, the goals for this year and some interesting anecdotes. Annual reports for the students were also handed over to their parents.

Whole School Artwork:
A whole school initiative, which meant every student, teacher, and staff member was involved in the creation of an artwork, on 20th June, under the guidance of our art teachers, Mahalakshmi and Kavitha. It was beautiful to watch how differently each child took up the task and created their own strokes with their chosen colours. The artwork is still a work-in-process, and the final form will be brought in by the therapists.

A unique first of its kind experience:
“Sitaare Zameen Par” is creating waves in the social media and in the box office, due to its unique story line and the special actors who have worked in it. We had a well-wisher of V-Excel, and a friend, who wanted to sponsor the tickets for a show to take all the students of the school. It came in suddenly and it was facilitated by Aparna Bubna, who made the arrangements to book the tickets for us.
So, on 28th June, a Saturday, we organised to take students over 12 years, teachers and staff for the show to Inox, Citi Centre, Mylapore for the 9.10 am show. We had 30+ students, along with some parents and caretakers, for the show. This was the first time we took almost the whole school of students to a movie, where there was a sensory overload in the form of loud audio, extremely chilled auditorium, dark space and to be seated for nearly 3 hours without moving.
A big surprise and to our delight – every child sat through the movie, enjoyed the scenes, many reacted appropriately to the emotions on the screen, smiled and laughed without any restlessness. Some did visit the toilet with the help of the akkas, a few times, which was expected.
The whole experience was very satisfactory and eye-opening for all of us, to see and watch our children adapt to the space and sounds and carry themselves so well like any other child of their age. A big thank you to the well-wisher for making this happen.

Enriching Curriculum through chalk board drawings:
Main lessons of Alexander III, Norse Mythology, Ekalavya and Prophet Muhammed in the classes for the first Block brought alive the story through narration, movement, songs and drama. To enhance this experience, the teachers brought the story in visual form through chalk board drawings – both on the board and on the chart.

Warm wishes from the children:
Vasudha / Vasudha aunty as the children call her, received a beautiful bird marked with the colourful fingerprints of all the students, and an original song written by them “And Then There’s You” set to music, for her birthday, in a simple gathering at school on June 30th. They thanked her for providing the space for them to be happy and purposeful.

Dindi Palkhi Sohla
On 30th June 2025, the V-Excel Learning Center in Pandharpur organized a vibrant and spiritually enriching event — the Dindi Palkhi Sohla. Held at the center itself, the celebration brought together special children, their parents, and the entire staff in a joyful display of devotion and culture.
The V-Excel Learning Center, Pandharpur, hosted a spiritually uplifting and culturally rich celebration — Dindi Palkhi Sohla. The event saw enthusiastic participation from our special children, their parents, and the dedicated center staff.
The festivities began with traditional worship rituals, followed by the ceremonial Palkhi procession, or Dindi. The environment resonated with devotion as children joyfully chanted the names of Lord Vitthal and played the jalra in rhythmic unison, infusing the air with divine energy.
A standout feature of the celebration was the children's traditional attire. They came dressed as revered saints such as Sant Tukaram, Sant Dnyaneshwar, Muktabai, Janabai, Namdev, and Meerabai. Their heartfelt expressions and authentic costumes brought these spiritual icons to life, deeply moving everyone in attendance. It was more than a celebration — it was a heartfelt expression of devotion, inclusivity, and creative talent.
The active presence and support of the parents added a meaningful dimension to the event. Their involvement highlighted the strong sense of community and encouragement that V-Excel nurtures in its inclusive educational environment.

Tirunelveli
Building Everyday Skills Through a Simple Shopping Trip
Shopping may seem like a routine task, but for children with special needs, it can open up a world of learning. A short visit to the nearby PKS Vegetable Shop near Perumalpuram became an exciting hands-on experience for the kids—and a wonderful opportunity for real-life learning.
At the shop, we introduced the children to different fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens—helping them name and recognize each item. We gave them a small amount of money and encouraged them to buy something on their own. The joy and confidence on their faces said it all!
Activities like this play a powerful role in developing functional life skills. Children learn to:
· Communicate clearly and express their choices
· Identify common items and expand their vocabulary
· Handle money and use simple math
· Interact socially with shopkeepers and peers
· Make small decisions and follow through independently
These experiences build more than knowledge—they nurture confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. The children were learning while having fun.
We are planning to create more of these meaningful everyday moments that help children grow and become independent.

Bhagavan Ramana Center for Specially-Abled Children, Thiruvannamalai
Discovering talents through art
We organized drawing and painting sessions where our children created artwork using their fingers, feet, and thumb prints on drawing sheets. This unique approach allowed them to express themselves creatively.
These sessions help in significant improvement in the children's drawing and painting abilities, including a better understanding of color, shading, and form. The fun-filled session was a great experience for both the staff and children.
These sessions also help in developing fine motor skills, enhancing creativity, and improving cognitive abilities. Our goals are aimed at providing a nurturing environment where children can grow and develop through art.
