From the staff of Early Intervention and V-Excel Remedial Centre
Greetings from Early Intervention and the Remedial Unit!
December Bazaar and the Games
December is a special month as we observe World Disability Day on 3rd. Dec every year. This year we conducted ‘December Bazaar' - a platform to showcase the products made by our trainees across the units, at our premises. As part of this Mega Event, the Early Intervention unit of V-Excel organized "Games Cart". Several games were tailor made based on therapeutic aspects, and care was taken to make them as interesting as possible. It was open for all our visitors. The whole floor was filled with laughter, and was wonderful to see the young and the old participating in all the games and enjoying them with immense enthusiasm.

Our CSR partner's visit
On 11.12.24 Ms. Kadhija, the CSR head of ATOS visited Olcott School where we are providing services for their Primary section.
The following is a report of the activities done during her visit
Counselling
Grade 5
The students enacted a play to sensitise everyone of how all students need to practice equality. No one can be discriminated based on caste, economic status, or physical differences.
The second play was about team building and its importance.
The day's theme was time- uses and management.
Counsellor Ms. Sumathi told the story of “5 minutes Raju”. The story gave the message that one must respect time- both their own as well as of others.
Managing time helps a person to be successful.
After the story telling Ms. Kadhija interacted with the students.
Grade 4
Started with a breathing exercise. Then the story of the Hare and tortoise was narrated and students were asked some questions. The idea was to tell them that one must understand how to use time effectively. The hare spent his time lazily, so he lost the race.
The students also interacted with Ms. Kadhija and gave her information about the counselling class activities done so far and how they benefitted from that.
Grade 3
The students were asked to do an activity about communication.
They also demonstrated how to learn numerical operations in a fun filled way.
Occupational Therapy.
OT is given to selected students from grades 1 to 5 every fortnight. Mr. Arun, our therapist conducted interesting exercises to help students learn the concept of time. The activity involved exercises of gross motor and cognitive skills.
Remedial session
Ms. Banu, the remedial teacher conducts remedial sessions for a select number of students once in a week. She introduced the concept of time and helped them read an analog clock. She used various strategies and different learning techniques to learn the concepts of time.
We thank our CSR partners for their support and encouragement.

Kaleidoscope Learning Centre
From Shashikala Subramaniam's Desk

December brought the long-awaited day of The December Bazaar, Tuesday 3rd, for which a whole lot of preparation had been happening over the last few months in school by the students and teachers. The days leading to this day were hectic and filled with decorating, preparing the space, planning, setting up the stalls and making last-minute arrangements for a smooth flow of the event.
We had food, games, and the sale of the products made by V-Excel trainees from Chennai and from the other satellite units – Solapur, Nashik, Erode, Srirangam. We also offered space to sell products from The Friends of Camphill, Bengaluru and from parents of our students. It was a hectic day from 11 am till 7.00 pm when almost 85% of the products put on the counters were sold.
The theme of Bethlehem and Ramana Maharishi ran through the building, with the Thiruvannamalai hill on the first floor, the manger with Mary sitting inside it on the second floor.
Most of the people who visited were parents, friends, family, and well-wishers. The products were appreciated for their design and quality and orders were also placed for them. We had the support of staff and trainees of other units throughout the day. Students and teachers from Kolaperumal School visited the Bazaar and spent a lot of time interacting with the trainees. We had experiential counters like the Chakki – which was very popular, the Ayur therapy counter, The Temple and the foot massage room. Handwork and painting were also part of the Bazaar as an experience.

Awareness and Socialisation
Sange Shakthihi, Inclusion is Acceptance, a program for the students of KLC, V-Excel and the students of Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar was organised by BVM, Adyar on December 5th at their premises. KLC students were warmly welcomed, and they performed the Blue Blue Sky Choir. Following this they had a Buddy Run where each student was accompanied by a buddy from BVM in various races. Special posters and beautiful greeting cards made by the students were given to the KLC students. They painted and created art together. There were questions in their eyes about the KLC students which quickly translated to a whole load of warmth and acceptance.

Training for the Wars of Alexander
Grade 5 in their History Block are learning about Alexander the Great, the wars fought, the rigorous training that his army went through to follow Alexander in conquering many countries and civilizations. The students too undertook rigorous physical training in climbing the walls, the jungle gym, snaking through small holes and spaces in the sand pit area under the guidance and supervision of their teachers. Even the most lethargic students were seen moving well and joining in the exercises of the class.

Christmas Times – the time for Loving and giving and sharing gifts
Tatva Primary School, Polachery, invited our students to perform Carols with the Blue Blue Sky Choir. On 13th December, the choir of KLC students gave themselves to the beautiful audience of Grades 1 to 4. The children sang, chatted with Santa and the teachers danced with the group. A few came to sit for a quiet chat with Prasaad, one of our students. The little musical performance from the birth of Christ to the task of Santa, came alive that evening.
Thanks so much to the entire team from V-Excel for making this happen. Our corridors and hearts were filled with joy and hope to see your beautiful group come and sing carols for the season. It is quite an overwhelming experience … every time I see our V Excel children, I feel this. Lots of love to all of you and deep gratitude for your presence today!

Christmas is a time to love and give. Our Senior School Students took little coconut shells that had been carefully sown with plants and tended to and shared it with our neighbours, spreading joy warmth and making new friends. Santa Claus was truly in the neighbourhood. The school students in the neighbourhood were very happy and excited to receive this group and interact with them. At the same time some experiences were not so good. More awareness and acceptance of these neuro divergent / special children to be brought about even in the neighbourhood which has been in existence for the last 10 years.

Advent is the season leading up to Christmas, where one is invited to prepare their soul to receive the birth of a new impulse. Typically, a spiral made from the plant and mineral kingdom (leaves and stones) with figurines of the animal kingdom and the human being are arranged. We walk into the spiral, light our own candles, and place it along the spiral as we come back outwards.
This little journey symbolises the many journeys we take in our life in darkness, to find light and hope. As this is a time of the year where the days grow darker with the change of season, we have many light festivals (Diwali, Karthigai Deepam, Christmas) that ask us to go inside and light our own light and bring it into the world.
KLC parents were invited to be part of the Advent Spiral on 3 different days – 16th,17th and 19th of December.

Giving gifts during Christmas to the students is a time honoured tradition in KLC. This year every teacher handmade beautiful gift to their class students and presented it to them just before the school closed. Each grade had different gifts, made with care and love. Exchanging gifts between classes too is a tradition. Students and teachers made gifts for the other classes and went around singing carols before gifting it. Our dedicated group of akkas too got gifts.

Community Lunch
Our support staff in the school have been playing a very important part in the everyday running of it. Through highs and lows, they have always been there to work with the children and teachers – whether in school or when we go out on field trips. To show our appreciation and to thank them, we invited them for lunch, served them and sat along with them to have lunch on the last day of school. This gave a closure to the Christmas celebration in KLC.

KLC closed for Christmas holidays from 21st December and reopened on 2nd January 2025.

Glimpses of joyous Karthika Deepam Celebrations at KLC and YES on 13-Dec-2024
Carols sung @ Tatva School on 14th December
The little and big elves jumped into a yellow sleigh and zoomed towards Tatva.
As always, during the season of Christmas, drama and mystery surrounded us. So, our sleigh was only about twenty minutes late for the thirty-minute concert.
But it is also this time of year, where goodness and kindness wins...
While Tatva prepared themselves for our late arrival, the choir of elves really gave themselves to the beautiful audience of Grades 1 to 4.
The children sang with us and chatted with Santa. The teachers danced with us, and some came to sit for a quiet conversation with Prasaad.
So, our little musical going from the birth of Christ to the task of Santa - came alive this evening!
We left with grateful hearts, after a tasty snack. With smiles on our faces, we hope one day, we will also have as much nature and quiet around our school as exists around this school.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks so much to the entire team from V-Excel for making this happen. Our corridors and hearts were filled with joy and hope to see your beautiful group come and sing carols for the season. It is quite an overwhelming experience... every time I see our V Excel children, I feel this. Lots of love to all of you and deep gratitude for your presence today!

Quiet Christmas celebration
At KLC, we had a quiet Christmas celebration, where parents were invited to be part of the advent spiral. This was done over 3 days in 3 batches. (16, 17 and 19 December).
Advent is the season leading up to Christmas, where one is invited to prepare their soul to receive the birth of a new impulse.
Typically, a spiral made from the plant and mineral kingdom (leaves and stones) with figurines of the animal kingdom and the human being are arranged. We walk into the spiral, light our own candles and place it along the spiral as we come back outwards.

As this is a time of the year where the days grow darker with the change of season, we have many light festivals (Diwali, Karthigai Deepam, Christmas) that ask us to go inside and light our own light and bring it into the world.
Ajay, a senior student of KLC, requested a deep and quiet Christmas and the teachers felt this would be a good way to share this quietness with our parents and friends.
