Training in Srirangam

The month of October was very eventful as our organisation has entered into a new project in Srirangam to start vocational training centres. Any new programs need the training component for the staff who will be running those centres. Eight special educators with qualifications in special education were chosen. In the first week of October, all these 8 new entrants as well as our own staff who are with the Vocational Unit, attended the week-long training program . Many topics related to disability and vocation training were imparted to them. Dr. Vasudha Prakash, Gita Bhalla, Parimal Pandit, Usha Rajagopal and Maria Josephine offered in-depth training to all the participants.

The participants visited other vocational training setups in Spastics Society of Tamilnadu, Sankalp and Youth Empowerment Services. They were also introduced to different skills such as making of jewellery, and decorative wall hangers using quilling techniques, knitting and activities using wool. These were taught by Ms. Chandra, Ms.Tamil Selvi and Ms. Priya. All the participants at the end of the training program commented that it was very useful and it enhanced their learning and how to go about in assessing and training students who will eventually be joining at these centres.
