Academy of Teaching Excellence

Happenings

V-Excel's ATE is in the process of getting together many courses for this academic year.
We have slightly changed our strategies to target different groups of people to attend our trainings and have an exposure not only in special education but in all related filed of education and Inclusion.
Since India was the first country to sign the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Persons with Disability), across the globe the focus is now on Inclusive Education
The UNCRPD marks a paradigm shift away from the medico-charity model of disability. It is based on the precept of the "social model" which recognises disability as 'an evolving concept' resulting from the interaction between persons with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinders full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
As per the guidelines set by UN the Country Report would contain information about the activities of the State in upholding and implementing the UNCRPD viz., the protection and promotion of human rights and as well as information on non-discrimination and equality, and effective remedies, in accordance with the harmonized guidelines.
In addition we would like to highlight the efforts of the non-state parties like NGOs, individuals, private organisations etc that has been path breaking. These could be individual success story, best practices or any activity that has been instrumental in bringing about change in the lives of persons with disabilities in the true spirit of UNCPRD.
So where to start is a big question? To address the issues we have when working with people with special needs, training is the most important component in equipping ourselves.
So our target group is college students, especially those who are qualifying to be psychologists, social workers, teachers who are already working in regular schools, rehabilitation professionals and parents.
Colleges are being contacted and we are waiting for responses to take our training forward. ATE always keeps pace with the developments happening around us, and plans training programs accordingly.
Next on the agenda is the Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) training programs as we are getting many calls regarding the same. Topics have been chosen and proposals sent to Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Look for details soon.
