V-Excel News
  • On 3rd December, 2006, World Disability Day was celebrated at Hotel Le Royal Meridien. Young adults with disabilities from six schools in Chennai participated in the program. Mr. Murali, a popular VJ from the city conducted the event. The celebration turned out to be very lively and all the children participated with enthusiasm. They sang and danced to popular numbers to their hearts content. The event was followed by snacks and beverages. The event and the food was sponsored by the management of Le Royal Meridien, Guindy, Chennai.
  • Seasonal Greeting cards – created by our children have been sold to companies like Infosys, Johnson & Johnson. We have 12 different designs of Greeting cards for sale @ Rs:10 per card.
Academy of Teacher Excellence News
  • The LD course conducted by Mrs. Sudha Chella culminated just before the Christmas vacation. Despite the course being very exhaustive, it was very successful. The students felt really motivated after the LD course.
  • Mrs. Neela Chandramouli and Ms. Viji Shanmugha evaluated the internship of the trainees in the Learning Disability course.
Kaleidoscope Learning Center (KLC) News
  • It was Christmas time in the city! Well it certainly was Christmas time in KLC the whole month. The classes were agog with Christmas activity and the cheerful songs were being taught and sung for almost two months. Finally the Christmas party (kind courtesy Mrs. S Trehan who sponsored the event) was replete with Santa Claus, gifts, goodies and carols.
  • Dr. Lakshmi Prasana and Dr. Michael gave a talk on “Movement and Speech” as a continuation of a series of in-service training that is being conducted for the teachers.
  • School closed on a festive note on 22nd December.
V-Excel Remedial Center (VRC) News
  • Christmas was celebrated with gusto. The children looked forward to meeting the Santa, receiving gifts and sharing snacks with great enthusiasm. They listened to stories on Christ through the month and the spirit of Christmas was in the air. A shrine was built and decorated both in Adyar and in Mandaveli.
  • Children from Mandaveli joined the KLC to be with Santa and had loads of fun.
  • Adyar center was lit up with candles lit by the children, parents and teachers. It was a silent time of togetherness for all of us and very beautiful to watch the group in harmony. Arrival of the Santa ushered in a cheer that was infectious.
  • Some snippets from our classrooms:
    • Goutham achieved independence in working on the computer for using software to navigate learning new concepts leaving behind verbal and physical prompts
    • Zubeir has overcome major sensory difficulties in playing with other children on the swing, slide and the jungle gym.
    • Vibhu has learnt to speak in full sentences and appears to be enjoying it too.
    • Jagan transitions better and with ease with verbal and visual prompts.
    • Dhanush has leant to be totally compliant to the teacher’s instruction through the one hour.
    • Mahima surprised all of us by verbalizing “Yeppadi Irukke” to Zubeir spontaneously.
    • Sri Charan has communicated that he is more settled at school and is happy there.
    • Shanmathi is thrilled to share that she has secured 60% in a math exam
Bridges Learning Academy
  • It was end of term at BLA: that meant end of term assessments, report writing and parent meetings! The three weeks of December were over in a wink of an eye and before we knew it we were writing reports and scheduling parent meetings.
  • Christmas arrived with Santa, gifts and a nice party where the children had loads of fun, plenty to eat and laughs.
Disha - Parent Forum
  • On 2nd December, 2006, the First Disha meeting of this academic year began with a talk by eminent Educationist Mrs. Usha Ramakrisnan, Chairperson of Vidyasagar. She addressed the parents of the children of our school on the topic “Emotionally Intelligent Parenting”. The talk was followed by a question answer session. Overall, the talk was very inspiring and offered beautiful insights on parenting.
V-Excel Outreach
  • On December 16th 2006, aids and appliances were distributed to thirty special children at Rishivandhiyam and Thyagaduram. The function was presided over by the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Shri. K. Venkatapathy. The appliances distributed include calipers, tricycles, hearing aids and spectacles.

Volunteers are an integral part of our success. Our most pressing needs are in the areas of occupational and speech therapies, and as teacher aides. We also require assistance in library management.
