Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

In June 2003, V-Excel Educational Trust was selected by the Tamil Nadu State Mission to implement the Inetgrated Education for Disabled (IED) in 10 rural blocks in Villipuram.


What is SSA?


Objectives

  • To develop strategies and programs for the integrated education of the disabled.
  • To coordinate the activities with all other agencies involved in the education of the disabled.
  • To conduct training programs to NGOs, special teachers, teacher educators and teachers.
  • To supply aids and appliances according to the special needs of the disabled children.
  • To implement includive education in the blocks successfully.

Assigned Tasks

  1. Studying and developing the present scenario of facilities available for the education of the disabled in the selected blocks.
  2. Appointing threee specially qualified teachets (1 VI, 1 HI and 1 MR) per block to impart inclusive education to all categories of differently-abled children.
  3. Enumertation of the actual number of children with various disabilites in and out of school in the locality.
  4. Preparation and handing over the names of children with postal address, school in which admitted and other details to the DPC
  5. Issuing identity cards to all types of disabled children.
  6. Devising special programs and interactions for their enrollment and continued retention in schools.
  7. Organizing awareness campaigns for the enrollment and retention of the disabled children.
  8. Planning and organizing medical camps to identify and assess the severity of disabilities. Making arrangements for the supply of aids and appliances from the funds allocated to them or if necessary with the assistance of other departments.
  9. Assessing the special needs of such children and providing facilities.
  10. Planning and organizing training programs to NGOs, special teachers, teacher educators and others to build their capacity in educating the disabled children.
  11. Coordinating the activities with other departments like Social Welfare, Health, Rehabilitation and other voluntary agencies working in the field.
  12. Assisting the DPCs in carrying out IED programs under SSA.
  13. To submit periodical reports and information to the district office as well as to State Headquarters.
  14. Render assistance to admit children with severe disability in special schools.
  15. Seek the cooperation and assistance of other specialised agencies in educating children with various disabilities.
